Outdoor track teams dominate in first meet

Both the boys' and the girls' outdoor track teams performed well in the first meet of their seasons against Einstein, placing first in nearly every event.

According to Coach Carl Lewin, the meet was highlighted by juniors Matt Sheldon and Esey Kidane, who both set personal records in distance events. Sheldon shed three seconds from his 800-meter time and Kidane cut eight seconds from his 1600-meter time.

"It was a really good race," Sheldon said, referring to his 800-meter competition. "I was only competing with another teammate, so we were both having fun."

Male Blazers placed first, second, and third in the high hurdles and shot put competitions, and the girls' team dominated in high hurdles, high jump, and the 400, 800 and 3200-meter races.

Sheldon attributes the team's success to consistency and determination throughout the events. "Everyone is finishing," said sophomore Fidan Kerimova of her persistent teammates. Sophomore Julianna Allen added that the wins reflect the hard work put into the team's daily practices.

According to Coach James Short, today's win is only the beginning on a road to success. With a team of mostly underclassmen, he is expecting a lot of improvement over the season. "We're so young. We are going to win this year though," he said optimistically. "Right now we're just getting ourselves together."
