MAY 1, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM--

The Blair coed volleyball team beat Springbrook today in a long, fiery match in three sets, 15-7, 7-15, 15-5. The win improves the team's season record to 9-2.

The first set belonged to the Blazers, as they played with much more effort than Springbrook did. Superb play by senior Andrew Lee, who capped off the set with a tremendous spike and kill, the second of nine throughout the match, helped push the team past the Blue Devils.

The rallies were long and intense, and the crowds on both sides were passionately cheering their teams on.

Senior Debby Man and Junior Amanda Hsiung teamed up on one especially long rally to save the ball, and then Lee spiked it home for the first point of the second set. Hsiung saved shots all night and defensively helped carry the Blazers to victory.

Coach John Mott recognized Hsiung's performance. "[Hsiung] was incredible," Mott explained. "We started playing smarter and hitting around their blocks."

After being shut down the second set (including not scoring a point for ten minutes), Blair came back and played a strong third set, ending the match on a 9-1 run.

Senior big man Phil Repicky, who played great defense to help close the game, noticed why the Blazers were able to pull out of this game with a win. "We ended the game with a lot of intensity, and we learned from our mistakes," Repicky said.
