Despite delays, Blair track destroys BCC

The 1600-meter relay started with a gunshot and blur of red and white. It was just an average race except for two things: all the runners were from Blair and none of them were really runners.

Blair discus and shot-put throwers took the spaces of the regular 4x4 runners when BCC could not pull together a team. According to sprinter Jamie Kovach, the entire BCC squad measured about one third of Blair's lineup.

Although Blair pummeled the BCC boys team 100 to 18 and the girls 103 to 28, there were several disappointments during the meet. Senior co-captain Ashely Moorefield, who has dominated the 300-meter hurdles constantly this season, lost the race on Friday. The all-star girls 4x8 team, made up Hayley Wynn, Kim Schaerdel, Laurel Jefferson, and Aynesleah Sinclair also lost their race.

Kovach attributes these upsets to a lack of motivation team wide. "No one wanted to run," she said. "No one was really ready. But because BCC was such a weak opponent, no one really cared."
