Girls' b-ball puts up points, but lets down guard

In their most offensively productive game of the young season, the Blair girls' basketball team battled back and forth with Walter Johnson High School. However, a fourth quarter collapse put the Blazers out of contention, as they lost 54-39 and dropped to a 0-4 record.

For senior Erin Ivey, who transferred to Blair from Walter Johnson, the game was of great significance. Ivey did not fail to put on a show for her old teammates, scoring a team high 11 points.

Despite Ivey's performance, the Blazers' turnovers and lack of outside shooting, a significant problem in each of the team's games this season, were the keys to their loss. However, this was by far the team's closest game of the season, primarily due to a more patient offense, which exhibited far better shot selection.

Seniors Latasha Peace and Ashley Moorefield, who had been relatively quiet in the season's first three games, combined for 16 points against Walter Johnson, and added quickness to Blair's defense.

Coming off the bench, junior Jen Sindall also added a spark. A guard, Sindall has arguably the best set shot on the team, and was able to hit consecutive field goals to ignite the Blair offense during the second quarter, which ended with the Blazers down by two, 21-19.

The Blazers' only three pointer of the game came from sophomore Mckenzie Robinson, who threw up a wild shot from beyond the arc. Robinson saw a great increase in playing time today, as junior point guard Lara Dean was in foul trouble and sat for most of the game, scoring only one point.

Emily Ramsay, a sophomore, also got in foul trouble early. Normally one of the Blazers' best inside players, Ramsay was a non-factor. Fellow sophomore Caroline Kuttner was unable to play in the Walter Johnson game.
