With return of Brown team is optimistic about season
The girls' basketball team tipped off its 2002-2003 campaign Friday night in the Blair gym, opening the season with two tough days of tryouts over the weekend. Due to the small number of players that tried out, few or no cuts will be made.
Super junior Kidesh Brown returns this season from a one-year hiatus from the sport. Brown brings Iversonesque scoring ability and a Ray Allen shooting touch. With her added firepower to an already seasoned team these Blazers ought to be quite formidable.
Brown has managed to stay in pretty decent basketball shape by participating in pick up games as well as playing in the Montgomery County Recreation Department-sponsored YES league. Brown is one of the few girls who plays, and she still is able to dominate and show off her talent.
The Blazers backcourt should be one of the best in the area with senior Lara Dean manning the point in her third straight varsity season. With combo guard senior Colby Chapman or senior Jen Sindall as her running mate, the backcourt should have no problem scoring points. Also with the return of Brown at small forward comes size and athletic ability on both ends of the court.
The Lady Blazers practice every day after school and look constantly to improve as a team so that they can make memories of last season's disappointing 9-14 record disappear.
