Despite taking an early lead, the boys' lacrosse team came up short again, losing to Wootton High School 6-5

After rolling through the first part of its season to a perfect 5-0 record, the boys' lacrosse team has encountered another streak. This one, however, is not quite so positive.

With a 6-5 loss to Wootton High School, the Blazers continued its downward spiral, dropping to 5-3 on the season with its third consecutive loss.

The Blazers misfortunes began on Apr 17 when the team lost to Walter Johnson High School 5-4, outplaying its opponent but losing on a Wildcat shot that snuck past goalkeeper Ben Schwengels with six seconds left to play.

Its next match, a 9-5 loss to Churchill High School, was the team's second consecutive defeat. The Blazers' 6-5 loss to Wootton resembled the Walter Johnson game in many ways, as the team's defense held strong throughout the game, but its offense faltered in the fourth quarter.

Blair got off to an early lead in the Wootton game with a goal by mid-fielder Josh Gottlieb-Miller. Wootton countered two minutes later, bouncing a shot past Schwengels to tie the game 1-1.

In the second quarter, a quick goal by attack John Selby put Blair up again. The rest of the period belonged to Wootton, however, as the team managed to score three goals, while the only other Blair goal came from attack Ben Woo. Mid-fielder Brian Matheron assisted the goal, which came with five minutes left in the quarter.

For the remainder of the game, Matheron was the only Blazer able to find the back of the net, as he scored two goals in the third quarter. The second goal, an attempted pass to attack Andrew Ginsberg, bounced past the Wootton goalkeeper to tie the game at 5-5.

However, Wootton was able to finish the Blazers off, scoring the winning goal seven minutes into the final quarter.
