Five Blazers rewarded win recognition and employment
The winners of the Fiscal Year 2005 Martin Luther King, Jr. Educational Contest were announced during an assembly held on Feb. 2.
Blair's first-place winner was Kate Johnston, second Gloria Dowery, third Hannah Fegley, fourth Sheri Lawal and fifth Amelia Sagoff. All were seniors.
The senior winners were guaranteed summer employment at the Animal and Health Inspection Service (APHIS), which is the environmental safety organization that hosted the contest.
According to English department resource teacher Vickie Adamson, there were more than 30 entries from Blair students and, while only five were supposed to be sent in from each school, Adamson sent 12 of them. According to Adamson, APHIS also chose five of the pieces instead of the expected three because it felt that they were more than qualified.
Three of the winning entries are on display in the showcase outside the English office.
