Visit part of Educational Technology Conference

Approximately 20 members of the National School Board Association came to visit Blair on March 16 as part of a two-day Educational Technology Conference hosted by Montgomery County.

Magnet computer science teacher Dennis Heidler introduced the board members to a variety of Blair's technology programs and facilities, including a 10th grade Magnet biology class and a digital circuitry lab being performed in a 9th grade research and experimentation class.

Additonally, Cisco Networking Academy and Entrepreneurship Instructor Derek Sontz and User Support Specialist Anne Wisniewski explained Blair's community-based computer programs, including BlazerNet (See article for details), an internet service provider give-away program, and Apple DayCare, a system to provide young area children with free, refurbished Apple computers.

During the conference, the board members participated in a series of information sessions regarding currently implemented and future plans for technology programs throughout the county, according to Heidler. Attendees of the conference were also able to choose to focus on elementary, secondary, or alternative programs and then visit schools falling in their category of choice.
