Blair signs on to 90 day pilot

Milk and ice cream will be available in new vending machines starting the first week back from winter break, according to Business Manager Anne Alban.

The school has signed on to a 90 day pilot with Midlantic Vending for the machines which have been successful at Springbook High School said Alban. She hopes that the milk products will be a "healthy alternative" to other machine food. "It seems like a win win for everybody because we do get some commission back," she said.

A recent Board of Education resolution restricted the time vending machines with "minimally nutritious" items can be on (read more). The new milk machines may help recover some of the money possibly lost as a result.

The biggest concern, Alban said, will be making sure that the milk stays fresh. Failure to keep up with a restocking schedule was the major problem with last year's pilot with Monumental milk machines.

Milk flavors will include chocolate, fat free chocolate, double chocolate, strawberry, bucha banana and very vanilla.
