Only one for Blair in JV match

Only one Blair junior varsity wrestler competed in the match against Richard Montgomery on Thursday, February 5, 2004.

Freshman Michael Street was the sole participant and lost his 171-pound weight class match. He was pinned one minute and four seconds into the contest.

Richard Montgomery's 151-pound varsity wrestler decided to compete in an exhibition match against a Blair JV wrestler, as there was no Blair varsity wrestler in his weight class. So, Street was forced to wrestle against a varsity opponent.

Blair has had little JV representation in its matches this year due to injuries and the upgrade of several JV wrestlers to fill varsity spots. Freshmen Nick Lukeheart and Max Lockwood have both had to wrestle at the varsity level because of vacancies in the varsity squad. Lockwood has wrestled every match this season in the 145-pound varsity weight class, while Lukeheart has competed in the 130-pound varsity weight class for about half the season.

Wrestling on the varsity squad has pushed Lockwood to perform at a higher level. " [Wrestling varsity] is a challenge, but you get better experiences and it is fun," said Lockwood.

JV wrestler junior Andrew Wallis is out due to a shoulder injury. His presence on the mat will be missed as he had been having a successful season at the heavyweight spot. Against Seneca Valley he pinned his opponent in a quick 33 seconds.
