English department wants more entries

Blair's annual summer reading poster contest has been postponed for the second time to Sept. 20 due to a shortage of entries. Interested students should submit entries to their English teacher for a chance to win $100.

This year's poster contest due date was first postponed from the Sept. 3 to Sept. 13 because only two entries had been submitted by the original deadline. However, by Sept. 13, there were still only 12 entries, and the deadline was moved back again, said English Department Chair Vickie Adamson.

Though the English Department has "never gotten a lot of entries for this contest," and the most posters ever entered in a year has been 30, Adamson expects to receive more work by the new deadline. "We have some stunning pieces of work right now," she said, "but I think there are a lot more talented people out there in the school who will hopefully use this extension to create something wonderful."

Monetary prizes will be awarded to the top five contestants: the first-prize winner receives $100, two second-prize winners receive $50 each and two third-prize winners receive $25 each. Posters from past years are on display outside of the media center.

For more information, contact Adamson in the English department in room 141.
