Profile for the 2004 Blair Primary

Democratic presidential nominee Rep. Dennis Kucinich is dedicated to restoring peace in the world and creating social and economic equality. His campaign is based on getting the U.S. out of Iraq, creating a single-payer health system, restoring civil liberties and improving education.

Kucinich has been a vocal opponent of the war on Iraq. He is the only democrat candidate in congress who voted against allowing President Bush to wage war against Iraq. Kucinich has continued to demand that the U.S. withdraw from the country and bringing international support.

In the post 9/11 era Kucinich has spoken against the Patriot Act and the Bush administration's attack on civil liberties. Kucinich wants to protect the privacy and freedom of American citizens and limit the government from over extending its policing powers. Kucinich wrote an amendment to the Commerce, Justice and State spending bill that would limit the government from searching people's homes without notice, a power given by the Patriot Act. Kucinich has worked bipartisan on this issue working closely with Rep. C.L. "Butch" Otter (R-Idaho).

Forty-one million Americans live without health insurance, while many others have inadequate insurance, which does not cover the expensive costs of medical treatment. Kucinich is proposing a single-payer plan that would provide all Americans with free health coverage. This would eliminate private health insurance programs that make profit off Americans at their expense. In order to pay for this plan Kucinich would impose a 7.7% tax on public and private employers. In three years Kucinich's plan would cover all American children.

Kucinich plans to strengthen public education in America. He will expand pre-kindergarten to age three and provide free college tuition for more students. His education plan will provide Americans with better education.

Kucinich will improve American and move the country towards peace, prosperity and equality.
