Rest, relax, and think about going back

Swig a beer, and watch the war in Iraq – before you go right back

Come back, soldiers. Get out of Iraq.

For 15 days.

And then you will all have to go back.

With all the whining and pining back in Congress with how the United States Army is seeing Vietnam all over again, the government decided to bring back the Rest and Relaxation policy. After all, if the situation is beginning to look like Vietnam, we have to make the same decisions, right?

So the soldiers in there for a full year get 15 days to, as General John Abizaid told the Buffalo News, "relax, take a shower, have a beer."

Technically, after these 15 days, they'll be so relaxed that they'll return to the front "on top of their game."

Good job, folks, good job. Forgot about anxiety? I can just imagine a soldier lying at home during his Rest and Relaxation period.

"Honey can I have another beer? I'm gonna have to go back in a week and I'm probably gonna get shot up there."

"Honey just let me watch TV in peace, this may be the last time in my life that I'll be able to do so."

"Kids, let daddy sleep, he wants a nice 10 hours of sleep without worrying about a night attack by guerillas."

The soldier is supposed to skip along merrily back to the Army to be sent back. Just imagine the joy on their faces as they fly back to face death after 15 days of "rest and relaxation."

"So, Joe, how was your vacation?"
"It sucked, I kept thinking about how I'd end back here."
"Rest and relaxation, man, rest and relaxation."
"Tempted to do Catch 22…"
