Senior assembly held

March 23, 2004, midnight | By Robin Hernandez | 20 years ago

A program sponsored by Monster.com visited Blair today to speak to seniors about college and making successful decisions after high school. The program, called Making College Count, was a free presentation.

According to administrator Linda Wolf, the presentation is supposed to happen every year, but Blair has not had one since the school moved to University Blvd. in 1998.

Wolf said that for many students, life after high school isn't about a university, but rather "about the next step," which she feels the presentation covered.

Senior SGA president Lynn Favin introduced speaker Eddie Francis, who works for Making College Count. Francis said that he hoped to help students determine how they can be successful in their decisions after high school. He told students how to be successful in interviews and to make the most of their time at college.

In his presentation, Francis made suggestions for successful note taking, including paying close attention to vocabulary, lists, formulas and equations and focus areas. "Listen to clues from teachers and professors," Francis said.

Senior Piper Hanson thought the presentation and speaker were exciting. "[Francis] was very exuberant. When he first talked, the whole auditorium was like ‘whoa!'" Hanson said.
