Senior makes several TV appearances

Senior Vital Akimana will be making several appearances on TV in recognition of his efforts to promote diversity in Blair and the Silver Spring Community.

Akimana was nominated for the Unsung Hero Award which is awarded community leaders. The award is given by the National Conference for Peace and Justice, which Akimana works closely with, and is sponsored by the WB50. Akimana can be seen in a commercial for the award. Akimana was nominated because of his work in building bridges and diversity workshop.

He was also recognized for his efforts as a youth couselor where he says he tries to "brings high school kids together."

CBS will be airing a thirty minute special on Akimana's life growing up in Rwanda and his move to the United States. The special will focus on Akimana's passion for creating a more accepting and diverse community. CBS has been at Blair taping diversity workshop for the show.
