Homecoming game day moved to Saturday

The SGA released the schedule for this year's homecoming events, including the dates for the Homecoming Court elections, the pep rally, Spirit Week, the homecoming dance and the football game, which has been changed from Friday night to Saturday afternoon.

Any students wishing to run for Homecoming Court can pick up petitions in the SGA office and return them by Oct. 14. The exact day of elections has not been released but is scheduled for the week of Oct. 17. Seniors are eligible to run for king and queen, juniors for prince and princess, sophomores for duke and duchess and freshman for lord and lady. As is customary, results will be announced at the pep rally on Oct. 28.

Spirit Week will take place the week of Oct. 24 to Oct. 28. Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is Twin Day, Wednesday is Wacky Tacky Day, Thursday is Hat Day and Friday is School Spirit Day, when all Blazers are encouraged to wear red.

In previous years, the homecoming game has been held at Blair the day before the dance. This year's game against Einstein High School is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. SGA officials say that the change is not related to the recent violence at a Blake High School football game and that the date was changed before the incident. According to Athletic Director, Dale Miller, it is more common for Homecoming games to be on the day of the dance than the night before. "We just wanted to try this and see what happens," said Miller. "If it works out we'll keep it on Saturday. If not, we'll go back to Friday nights."

The theme of the dance is "Tunnel Through Time." Each class has chosen a decade and will have a pole on Blair Blvd. to decorate. The freshman have the 90s, the sophomores the 70s, the juniors the 80s and the seniors the 60s. The dance is to be held from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and is semi-formal, although sneakers will be allowed. Tickets can be purchased for $10 from the SGA office during both lunches. An announcement of the start of ticket sales will be made on Info Flow.
