Diva Dancers, Breakdance Club, Step Team to perform

The SGA will hold a freshman social on Nov. 23 from 2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the SAC. The event will be free for students in the class of 2008.

The SGA has planned many activities for the social, according to SGA President junior Sebastian Johnson. The Diva Dancers, Step Team and Breakdance Club will be performing. According to Johnson, a DJ will provide music for Blazers who wish to dance. "It's not a dance, but there will be dancing," he said. The SGA is also planning to have free hot dogs, pizza, soda and water for all freshman attendees.

The normal school dress code will apply to freshmen attending the social, according to the SGA web site.

According to Johnson, the social is a good way for freshmen to become acquainted with the Blair community. "The [freshman social] is an opportunity for freshmen to get to meet each other and connect with other freshmen," he said.

The freshman social is the first event of its kind. ”No one [has] ever thought of the idea before until now," stated Johnson. English teacher Carole Tomayko's freshman Connections class came up with the idea for a freshmen-only activity and proposed it to the administration and then to the SGA.

Many freshmen feel that the event is a good way for students to get to know each other. "I think its good for us as freshmen to bond,” said freshman Malcolm Foley, who plans to attend the social.

Although some Blazers think that the social is a good idea, they believe that there was a lack of publicity that will cause a small turnout. "I'm not going because I just heard about it today on Info Flow, and that's too-late notice,” said freshman Joan Atkinson.
