Winners to be announced in April

Silver Chips Online was selected as one of seven finalists in the National Scholastic Press Association's (NSPA) annual online Pacemaker competition. Winners will be announced at a journalism convention in April.

Forty-two entries were submitted to the competition this year, according to a press release by the NSPA. Pacemakers are selected according to a variety of criteria, including journalism focus and variety, interactivity, navigation, up-to-date content and clarity.

"The Black and White” and "the Rampage,” from Walt Whitman and Rockville high schools, were also finalists in the competition. All finalists can be viewed at the NSPA site.

The Pacemaker award is a prestigious honor from the NSPA, and has been awarded to three online newspapers every year. Last year, Silver Chips Online was a Pacemaker winner.
