Silver Chips wins half of awards in state competition

Silver Chips and Silver Chips Online dominated the Maryland Scholastic Press Association's annual contest for student journalists for the 2000-2001 school year, winning a majority of the awards.

Silver Chips Online won all 19 awards in the six categories related to online journalism.

Silver Chips staff members (including online staff) won 81 awards out of 161, with 18 out of 31 first place awards.

Sam Goldblatt, Daina Klimanis, Emily Purcell, and Joe Howley won five awards each; Vivian Wang and Julia Kay won four.

John Mathwin, staff sponsor of Silver Chips, encourages his students to submit entries to the Maryland Scholastic Press Association.

Churchill High School was the runner-up in total awards recieved with twelve.
