Students flock to annual Activity Fair

Sept. 24, 2002, midnight | By Griff Rees | 21 years, 6 months ago

At lunch Tuesday Blair Blvd. was once again thronged with Blazers participating in the annual Activity Fair. Most able-bodied groups at Blair turned out for the event, some 28 clubs and 6 organizations, all vying for the attention, interest, and most importantly membership of the amassed students.

Each club adorned its respective cafeteria table with advertisements, some as simple as an 8 ½ x 11 in. sheet of paper. Others used big, colorful signs and artwork where applicable. Supplements ranged from videos and music, to computers and a large skateboard-like robot.

While most clubs were familiar to any veteran Blazer, some new clubs, seven in all, were to be found. ONE, in its first year, is a club for community service projects. Other new clubs include Youth Leadership Club for "communication and internships", Blair Literary Society for Students (BLISS) dedicated to discussing books and word games, Blair Network Communications (BNC) which works with computer networks, Fine Arts Club which intends to create a mural, and Rappers 4TAY Delight Club designed for rappers and boasting "contests every month." Lastly, Senior Sam Goldman ran around, jumping with a sign and yelling, "Join the kazoo band!"

In addition to the clubs, some other Blair-related organizations turned out. Teacher Derek Sontz promoted his class in entrepreneurship, created for Blair's new status as an Academy. Other groups included Urban Nation (a hip-hop choir), Blair Network Communications (BNC) which produces Infoflow and other T.V./Radio shows, the Poms, and two sports teams: Lacrosse and Gymnastics.

Please refer to your Planbook for official club information. There are 85 official clubs and organizations at Blair.
