Succcess in Iraq now measured in failure

More encouraging news about our success in Iraq came on Monday, October 27. Many Americans, including President Bush, were heartened to learn that a string of four suicide bombings in Baghdad destroyed three police stations and the Red Cross' headquarters, killing 35 people.

The President was swift to announce that these attacks are a sign of the enemy's desperation, and our successes in Iraq have spurred the attacks. "The more progress we make on the ground, the more free the Iraqis become, the more electricity is available, the more kids that are going to school, the more desperate these killers become," said Bush.

If this new Bush Doctrine of ‘failure indicates success' is applied to other parts of the war effort, it quickly becomes evident that we are making far more progress in Iraq. Since troops have found absolutely no weapons of mass destruction, we must be completely successful in the search for them.

Now every high school dropout means the school system is improving; every teen pregnancy means sex education is working; and every increase in obesity means public health campaigns are effective.

We can only hope that someday our level of success in Iraq equals that of Vietnam. American forces were unbelievably triumphant there, as one can clearly see evidenced by the massive civilian and soldier casualties. In Vietnam, we so effectively fought the war against the Communists that they killed 50,000 Americans and pushed us out of their country.

Now it is important that the attacks on Americans do not cease. If there were no more bombings, we could not be sure that the militant groups were being defeated. The less destruction in Iraq, the less victorious we will be!
