Juniors qualify for state competition

Two teams from Blair advanced to the state level of competition in the Destination Imagination (DI) regional tournament on Saturday, March 19. The tournament, which was held at Watkins Mill High School, hosted 65 teams of all age levels from Montgomery County.

DI is a creative problem-solving competition that consists of two events - a long-term skit that teams work on for months, and an "Instant Challenge," where teams have less than 10 minutes to solve a problem and present it to judges.

Both Blair teams were unopposed in their separate events, RaDIo DI and Sudden SerinDIpity. The RaDIo DI team consisted of juniors Michael Arbit, Ekta Taneja, June Hu, Pratik Bhandari, Eddie Wang, Brett Holbert and William Ardanuy. The team performed a love story between an alien bounty hunter and her prey, the last free human. The Sudden SerenDIpity team, made up of juniors Sally Lanar, Abby Goldman, Lynn Abe, Tess Minnick, Sarah Janesko, Monica Maher and author Jordy Goldstein, performed a skit about the battle between a virus and superhero cells in the lungs. Both teams will be moving on to the state competition.

Along with the two Blair teams, local teams from Eastern Middle School and Piney Branch Elementary School also qualified for the next level of competition, the Maryland State Festival of Creativity.

The state tournament will be held at Towson University on April 9.
