Local schools heighten security for the day

A teenager who received a fatal gunshot wound to the head was discovered on the property of a vacant school in Northeast D.C. on March 9, according to The Washington Post.

Police found the body of Devaun Drayton, a 17-year-old from the 1900 block of M Street NE, in a parking lot behind Phelps Career Senior High.  The school has been closed since fall of 2002.

Local schools including Young Elementary, Browne Junior High and Springarn Senior High decided to increase security and did not permit people to go in or out, according to The Washington Post.

Drayton, who was discovered by police at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, was pronounced dead 40 minutes later at a nearby hospital.
