Many important issues are on the ballot this year, such as the legalization of marijuana in our state, reproductive rights and residency rules for political candidates. Young voters are more affected by legislation on these issues but have notoriously low turnouts on election day due to political apathy, disinterest or preoccupation. You can be a part of reversing this trend. Here’s how:
- Register to vote. If you’re at least 16 years old and a citizen of the U.S., then this is the first thing you have to do. All you need is a Maryland I.D. (such as a driver’s license or passport) and a place to register. Although online voter registration is closed until November 21, you can register to vote at any polling place on election day.
- Cast your vote! Most elementary and middle schools, as well as some high schools, are voting locations. Although Blair will not be a polling location, if you vote by mail there is a ballot drop box outside the main entrance. Other than educational institutions, here are some accessible sites in the area at which to cast your vote today:
