NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM-

Blair wrestlers pulled out a close 43-27 victory tonight over Wheaton High School, the toughest team the Blazers have faced thus far in the season. This win brings Blair's overall record to 6-0, including a dual meet at Rockville High School on Dec 17 and a tri meet with Magruder High School at Richard Montgomery High School on Dec 15.

Tonight's meet began with the 112-pound weight class. Blair sandwiched two losses on either side of eight wins, interrupted by an overtime loss in the center. Five of Blair's eight wins came from pins, one from a forfeit in the 130-pound weight class, and two from wins on points.

Senior co-captain Mike Immerman had one of the two wins by points. Immerman has struggled recently to pin his opponents, though he consistently controls them throughout his matches and continues his role as a team leader.

Dominant performances came from senior Gibb Witham, senior co-captain Mario Bracamontes, and sophomore Hansel Cedeno. Witham pinned his opponent in the 140-pound weight class in 52 seconds and Bracamontes pinned his opponent in the 125-pound weight class in 31 seconds.

Cedeno took over a minute to pin his opponent in the 171-pound weight class, but dominated every second of the match. Cedeno, who's strength and aggressiveness give him a large advantage from the neutral position, repeatedly took his opponent down then intentionally let him escape for a net gain of one point. This strategy has helped Cedeno in other matches this year as well.

Several Blazers have been wrestling in weight classes significantly above their actual weight: Senior Zach Davis in the 189-pound weight class, senior Max Brett in the 145-pound weight class, and sophomore Austin Madert in the 112-pound weight class. They met mixed success in tonight's meet with Davis posting the only win among them.

Blair wrestlers will compete as individuals in a tournament at Damascus High School over Winter Break. Blair's next meet is a tri-meet against B-CC High School and Paint Branch High School at Blair on Jan 4.
