It's a rare treat to see Kurt Rosenwinkel perform in this country, now that he has relocated to Zurich. A lucky audience had the pleasure of seeing the dazzling guitarist perform along with his quintet last Thursday evening, March 17, at Blues Alley. The group was touring in support of Rosenwinkel's new album, "Deep Song," released earlier this month.

Jack Johnson's third album floats along, but never soars

By Jonah Gold | March 22, 2005, midnight | In Print »

"In Between Dreams," the newest release from singer/songwriter Jack Johnson, seems to be one continuous song, the acoustic guitar always soft, the melodies always upbeat, and Johnson always singing just over a whisper. But this formula has made Jack Johnson a platinum-selling artist and a favorite with people hoping to escape to his world of palm trees and beautiful beaches where even loss can be accompanied by major chords.

Stupidity is really hard to dodge

By Dan Greene | March 22, 2005, midnight | In Print »

Elementary school is a wonderful place, full of rich life lessons learned from being exposed to the real world for the first time. Softball opens in midseason form with 6-1 win

By Michael Bushnell | March 21, 2005, midnight | In Print »

Blair softball manager Louis Hoelman huddled his girls together prior to their victory over the Einstein Titans, and told them that "you can't win 'em all if you don't win the first one." Whether the first part comes to fruition remains to be seen, but the Blazers won the first one convincingly, never allowing Einstein to mount a serious rally in 6-1 victory on a chilly Opening Day.
