JV Blazers force a Rockets meltdown in close win

By Michael Bushnell | Feb. 9, 2005, midnight | In Print »

The Blair boy's JV basketball game was a tale of two very, very different halves. For the Blazers, after a half of run-and-gun, playing to Richard Montgomery's style, they got stingy on defense. Stingy enough to keep RM from making a single field goal in the fourth quarter, en route to a 52-47 Blair win, snapping an eight game losing skid.

Jimi Hendrix

Rock superstar Jimi Hendrix was only in the limelight for three years, but within that time, he managed to change the face of Rock and Roll forever. Hendrix was born in 1942, started playing guitar at age 11 and performed with local rock groups as a teen. At 16, Hendrix left school and joined the Army as a paratrooper, a career quickly ended by an injury he received during a practice jump.

By Jonah Gold | Feb. 9, 2005, midnight | In Print »

Barack Obama, the recently elected senator from Illinois, is one of the most politically powerful blacks today. Obama was born in 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii to a Kenyan father and a white American mother, Ann Dunham. Dunham is a descendant of Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederate States of America in the 1860s. After graduating from high school, Obama moved to New York City and attended Columbia University.

Two professionally equipped studios. A row of editing stations outfitted with top of the line programs and a full staff of producers, executives, DJ and assistants. Romance at its best at the Red Tomato

By Caitlin Garlow | Feb. 8, 2005, midnight | In Print »

There's nothing particularly special about the exterior of the Red Tomato Café, located near the corner of St. Elm Street in Bethesda. However, after entering the tiny, tucked-away restaurant and spotting the topping-laden pizzas as they are pushed into the crescent-shaped brick oven, it's clear why the Red Tomato was named a "best eat" by Washingtonian magazine.

A chance for peace in the Middle East

By | Feb. 8, 2005, midnight | In Op/Ed »

The election of Mahmoud Abbas as President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) has given both sides of the conflict an incentive to renew peace negotiations. To gain a better sense of the concerns Palestinians have for Abbas, I interviewed two Palestinians, Mike and Alex. (With current violence on the Israel-Palestine front, printing the full names of these sources may endanger their lives.) Mike is an administrator in Bethany, West Bank, and Alex is an accountant in Beit Hanina, Jerusalem.

Tom, a senior, has to take urine tests twice a week. He has to call his officer when he arrives at school, leaves for work and goes to sleep at night. He must attend countless drug education classes and be home by 9:30 p.m. every evening. He is in constant contact with an officer because he is on probation"but at least he's not in jail.
