Computers blackout during sixth period

A brief power outage in the 60s and 70s hallways interrupted sixth period today, Feb. 3, cutting off power to many of the computers on the first, second and third floors for the fourth time this school year.

Many of Blair's 1,350 computers shut down at 1:43 p.m. because a power surge tripped the school's electrical breaker, according to Quentin Middleton, the school's building services manager. At 1:56 p.m., Middleton, accompanied by Blair's business manager, Laurie Checco, fixed the breaker.

Similar power outages occurred last week on Jan. 27 and twice last year on Oct. 29 and Nov. 16, making today's power outage the fourth one this school year. Middleton attributes these electrical problems to the large number of electrical appliances in the school. "There was too much stuff on in the building at one time,” said Middleton.

More information to come.
