Blazers proudly pummel Patriots

The air was cold and the night was chilled, but the Blair boys' varsity soccer team heated up the field as they shutout Wooton tonight with a score of 1-0, increasing their season record to 8-4.

The sole goal of the game was scored by junior forward Abdoulaye Kaba with about 25 minutes left in the second half. Senior Andrew Pomeroy assisted Kaba by sending a high-flying pass over several Wooton midfielders. Kaba received the pass and took it for a breakaway. As he neared the goal, the Wooton goalie stepped out and challenged him. Apparently, Kaba was prepared for the challenge as he booted a blazing shot that, even with contact with the goalie's glove, sailed through the net.

The defense held it down in the backfield, holding Wooton to only a few shots on goal (none of which seemed to phase senior goalie Lino Martinez). However, according to senior defenseman Will Whitney, Blair needs to come out of the gate scroing earlier in the game, because the defense may not have it so easy next time. "Our defense is strong enough to hold off the weaker teams; but we need to come out stronger as we start playing the better squads, like Churchill (Blair's next opponent)," Whitney explains.

According to coach Adrian Baez, finishing is the Blazers' goal in the upcoming game against division pwoerhouse Churchill. "We need to finish after we attack," Baez says. "I am not happy. The score should have been at least 3-0!"

On a side note, Martinez remains scoreless, as he has not allowed a single goal against him all season. That's pretty darn good, don'tchya think?
