D.C. protest to be held Saturday

Anti-war rally scheduled in Nation's Capital


In response to the ongoing war in Iraq, United for Peace & Justice and ANSWER has organized an anti-war rally to take place Saturday, Sep. 24. Events and performances are scheduled on the Washington Monument grounds and near the National Mall area. The event is set to take place from 10 a.m. through the night.

Blair students who wish to attend the rally can meet with Students for Global Responsibility (SGR) at the Takoma Park metro station at 10 a.m. and take the red line rail to the McPherson Square station.

The event includes a Peace & Justice Festival, which will take place from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m. on the Washington Monument grounds. The festival will include vendors and various other activites.

At 11:30 a.m., a scheduled rally will take place on Ellipse Road.
A march near the White House and through D.C. is also scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. The march will begin on Pennsylvania Avenue on a preset route.

Operation: Cease Fire, a free concert featuring performances from folk singer Joan Baez and rock groups Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Thievery Corporation and Le Tigre, will take place from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Washington Monument.
