Montgomery County Schools stay in school

Prince George's County schools (PGCPS) and District of Columbia Public Schools were released from school two hours early on Tuesday, while Montgomery County schools stayed in session.

The PGCPS website cited "excessive heat" as the reason for releasing students. The air quality was code red, which is the worst the air quality can get, and the high temperature was around 94 degrees.

Kate Harrison, the Montgomery County assistant director of public announcements, said that she could not speak for PGCPS but that all of the schools probably do not have air conditioning. Montgomery County, on the other hand, did not need to get out early. "All of Montgomery County schools have air conditioning," she said.
