Newsbrief: Blair network system to be down

Blair's computer network will be down Monday through Wednesday during the week of May 19.

The predicted times that the network will be down on those three days are from 9 am to 2 pm. On Monday, May 19, work will be done on the media center and main office, and the entire student network in the entire school will be down. Students will not be able to log in to computers, go online and visit external sites, or print.

On Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 21, the network will be updated in various parts of the school.

Students who wish to work with school computers may come in before or after school to the media center to print documents. During the HSA administration, the media center will be open to student usage. However, the media center will be completely down on Monday.

The computer network is called a "switched network," and it is much more efficient than the one currently being used, according to user support specialist Anne Wisniewski. Instead of the hubs used currently to relay information from the server to interface and user, a state of the art system will be put in place to direct information and cut down on traffic flow.

After the new network has been put in place, the system should take one or two weeks to adjust.
