Pep rally moved indoors due to weather

First of the year moved to gym because of rain

Because of inclement weather and the current forecast, the SGA and Principal Phillip Gainous have moved Friday's pep rally, the first of the year, from the stadium to the gym, according to SGA President Barun Aryal.

The breezy, cool air and steady rain necessitated the decision, said Aryal. "The field was too saturated and the weather was cold. It just didn't look good," he said.

Principal Phillip Gainous met with Aryal and SGA Vice President Stephen Demarais to discuss the plans for the pep rally and determined that having it inside would better accommodate and satisfy the students. Demarais said the decision was made so that the students could concentrate on the pep rally instead of the cold, wet weather.

"We looked at the field and since it is such a great big mud puddle, we just decided to have it indoors," said Demarais. "We sat down with Mr. Gainous and decided it was just better for everyone to have it inside where it is dry and warm."

The incessant rain and cooler weather has been part of the after-effects of Hurricane Wilma, the storm that ripped through southern Florida at the beginning of the week. According to Weather.com, Friday's weather forecast calls for more rain showers with a high of only 55 degrees.

With these conditions, having the pep rally inside was a decision that was easy for Aryal, Demarais and Gainous to make. "No one likes to sit in the cold," said Demarais. "It was just a logical decision."
