Cabinet selects board games as this year's theme
The SGA announced today that this year's homecoming theme will be board games. This year's homecoming dance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m, and the annual fall spirit week will take place from Monday, Oct. 9, to Friday, Oct. 13.
The three contenders for this year's theme board games, espionage and Harry Potter were chosen by the SGA Senate on Aug. 28, the first day of school for freshmen. After conducting a poll on their website and doing random sampling during lunch, the SGA cabinet narrowed the choices down to board games and espionage at a meeting during second period last Friday.
According to SGA President Eric Hysen, the SGA tried to get more students involved in the theme-choosing process this year. Hysen estimated that over 150 students participated in the process.
SGA Vice President Molly Martinez intitially presented the board game idea "board games" to the Senate. According to Martinez, each class will get a well-known board game, possibly Life, Candyland, Monopoly or Clue as their theme. The halls and the SAC will be decorated with posters and other decorations featuring each class's games. "I'm really excited about it," said Martinez. "I think that we can do a lot with it."
Blazers still have time to get involved in the homecoming theme process, according to Hysen. "Class council presidents will pick their [class's] individual sub-theme over the next few weeks," he said. "If people still have ideas [for sub-themes and decorations], they can talk to their class presidents."
