Winter trends heat up the hallways

With holiday festivities past and exams upon us, the urge to roll out of bed and begin the trudge to school without changing out of those cozy sweat pants may be overwhelming. But despite the cold, many Blazers are still sizzling in the latest fashions, which will keep you toasty and trendy through ice, snow and scantrons.

Cozy coats
This season, jackets will not only keep you warm – they'll complete any outfit. So don't think for a second that you need to compromise your style for comfort. Pea-coats add a classy, mature look to any ensemble, with lengths hitting anywhere from below the waist to mid-thigh or below the knee. Take a note from freshman Hawa Jan and don't be afraid to stray from netural blacks and browns. Set yourself apart from the crowd with a plaid or brightly colored pea-coat– just be sure to carry the color through to another piece in your ensemble to complete the look.

Toggle coats are especially popular and though spotted less frequently than the ubiquitous pea-coats, give off the same mature vibe with a touch of classic detailing. (Who knew Paddington Bear was such a fashion icon?) Puffy, button-up coats are returning 07 'winter favorites that never fail to perform against the winter elements without surrendering style, as is Eskimo fur lining hoods. While winter white is always a keeper, don't be afraid to play around with colors.

On one of those strange winter days reminiscent of early spring, don't be too quick to pounce on short sleeves and short- shorts. Super-chic cropped jackets are bound to help you resist the urge to go against the season. Both polished and funky, these little coats with three-quarter length sleeves, big buttons and eye-popping fabrics are a light remedy to pump up an ordinary outfit.

Whether you're going for a muture, funky or original look this winter one of these jackets is
bound to suit your style– now pull your look together with just the right footwear.

Frosty footwear
This season, boots have marched their way to the top of the trends in different shapes, sizes and styles. Whether your preference lies with the comfort or flirt factor, winter boots are a trendy alternative to the everyday sneakers that have been around the block one too many times.

The latest footwear fashion that has taken the season by snowstorm are the ankle boots. Found in nearly every style, fabric, color and height, these spunky kicks are a great shoe for showing off your covered legs in the winter. Paired with tights and a skirt or under a pair of jeans, they are the perfect attribute to any stylish outfit. These shoes are easily dressed up or down, and depending their height and style, can make for a comfortable and casual or sweet and sassy look.

Also tramping their way around Blair this year are flat boots. Hitting from mid to low calf, these boots are chic in a variety of fabrics- from suede to patent leather, and with detailed personal touches, from patterns, to buckles, zippers and buttons. Depending on one's personal preference, these funky boots can either make a statement, or be a subtle touch of coordination– without the pain of high heels or pointy toes.

On those especially bone-chilling, grey winter days nothing is more tempting to your toes than a pair of fuzzy Ugg boots (or some incognito knock-off's). Though ankle and flat boots are the hot trends right now, don't toss those expensive fuzzy digs to the back of your closet. Worried that these boots are too common for your unique fashion flare? Though they certainly are not for everyone, fuzzy boots do not all have to look alike Experiment with different colors, embroidery, gemstones, and outer fur, until you settle on the boot that best compliments your style.

While these and other trends are making an impression in the Blair hallways, keep in mind that originality and instinct are always in style. Until the spring brings new looks our way,
