So far this season, the varsity boys lacrosse team has met their fair share of difficult opponents. When they went up against county rival Springbrook, the team lost 15-2. The typically shoddy Einstein squad was one goal away from tying the Blazers in a disappointing 3-4 match. However, perhaps the most oppressive competitor that the team has come to face is within the structure of the team as the Blazers have struggled to keep team mentality, and numbers, up.

American University's Bender Arena, despite its name, is, well, it's a basketball court. Patriots League banners hang around the entire perimeter, and on one side you can see the swimming pool from your seat. It is also a fairly nice place to hold a concert, what with its spacious floor and side-seating for wearier legs. Last night, the Arena traded basketball sweat and squeaks for those of the concert variety, in addition to the vague musty smell of dirt-trodden tarps that covered the floor. On the bill: rock/poppers The Format opening for the stuffed double bill of emo-punk behemoths Taking Back Sunday (who were, strangely, left off Ticketmaster info) and Jimmy Eat World.

Peace between Israel and Palestine now seems closer than it has since the beginning of the Second Intifada in September of 2000, possibly closer than it has since the not-quite-good-enough 1993 Oslo Accords. However, for there to be any genuine hope of achieving peace, Israel must be willing to make some concessions to the Palestinians, something that will not happen without President Bush upping the pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to make a more concerted effort for peace.
Just as no contemporary author would dare to undertake a work of the length, sensitivity, and historical perspective of a "War and Peace," "Don Quixote" or "Les Miserables", so too would no modern director undertake a film with the scope or complexity of "Andrei Rubelev."

The Blazers started off on par with Wheaton today but broke away late in the first set to make an increasingly one sided match. The Blazers (5-3) were on fire in their 25-15, 25-11, 25-9 win against the Knights.
If they wanted a realistic shot at keeping pace with Damascus at the top of the Maryland 4A division standings, Blair needed to defeat a mediocre Blake. The Blazers did just that, winning 5-2 thanks to a pair of clutch two-RBI base hits.
The Blair girls' varsity lacrosse team started the game against the cross-town rival Springbrook Blue Devils with a 2-0 lead; however the Blue Devils would come alive scoring seven straight goals in the first half. Blair's attempts at a comeback proved not to be enough as they lost 11-7.

APRIL 21, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM-- Despite the tremendous hitting strength, solid defense, and close team chemistry that has propelled Blair's varsity boys' volleyball team to an undefeated 2005 season, the team still suffers from occasional inconstancies, especially during games against weaker opponents. Despite being much stronger than Wheaton, the Blazers played an indifferent and often sloppy game against the Knights. They finally dragged out a 25-18, 25-15 and 25-17 victory over Wheaton, boosting their season record to 8-0.
