Wilco brings down the 9:30 Club

By Jonah Gold | March 2, 2005, midnight | In Print »

After an uninspiring five-song set from Chicago-based Detholz, the capacity crowd at the 9:30 Club awaited anxiously for the next band, on Feb. 24. Detholz, an evangelical rock group, seemed out of touch with the normal Wilco audience of college students and 50 year old men. They sang "Faith" by Limp Bizkit, a poor choice to play in front of a sold out show of people who had no interest in late nineties rap. Detholz even received a commemorative "You suck!" from the crowd, prompting them to quickly leave the stage.

This just in: snow has invaded the news

It happens with every vague forecast that predicts the possibility of some accumulation. Come 5 a.m., it's show time. Dozens of weather maps are rendered, hundreds of reporters are stationed along insignificant roadways, the prismatic peacock is readied and oh yeah, other news stories are organized into a small pack.

Trade deadline strengthens East

By Adith Sekaran | Feb. 28, 2005, midnight | In Print »

The general managers of the National Basketball Association (NBA) had a busy day on Feb. 24. Several trades occurred at the deadline to improve their team for the rest of the season or for next year by relieving the salary cap. The trade that will have the biggest impact will be the trade that sent Sacramento Kings power forward Chris Webber to the Philadelphia 76ers.
