The Blair boys' tennis team ended their season with a 7-0 win against Einstein to finish the season with a record of 9-3. The Division III Einstein team was outplayed by a Blair team that dropped a total of only two games out of the seven matches.
Coed volleyball falls to overpowering Damascus

A valiant effort from coed volleyball could not overcome the resounding spikes and jump serves of Damascus, as the Blazers (7-2) fell to the Hornets in four thrilling games, 25-16, 26-28, 25-17 and 25-13, ending their six-game winning streak. Armed with superior height, power and depth, the Hornets were able to dominate the net game and prevail into the later sets as Blair's fatigue became evident. Although the Blazers lost the match, they were able to win the exhilarating second set, the first set that Damascus has dropped all season.

The Blair girls' lacrosse team (2-5) took on the Gaithersburg Trojans in a well-fought but disappointing game that ended in the Blazers' sixth straight loss. The Blazers began the game with a solid defense, carefully protecting the goal. However, the girls had trouble bringing the ball downfield, and a powerful Gaithersburg offense scored their first goal after only three minutes.

The boys' outdoor track team dominated the last dual meet of the season today, beating Seneca Valley by the widest margin of any other dual meet this season, 120-13. With a 6-0 season record, the boys were crowned Division IV champions. The Lady Blazers defeated the Screaming Eagles by a more modest margin of 73-63, and end the season with a record of 5-1.
A victory for boys' volleyball against Hornets

The boys' volleyball team finished off the Damascus Hornets today in a quick 3-0 game, defending their undefeated record. Initially overwhelmed by careless mistakes, the Blazers overcame the Hornets' tired players by covering up their own weaknesses and forging an impregnable web of teamwork, winning 25-22, 25-10 and 25-16.

The Blair gymnastics team placed second at their meet tonight against Walter Johnson and Springbrook. Although still plagued by injuries and absences, the Blazers managed to beat Springbrook by four points, ending with an accumulated score of 130.25.

Geography dictates that Blair and Northwood are natural rivals in the realm of high school sports. Since Northwood closed its doors in 1986, Blair has been without a true go-to opponent, with Springbrook and B-CC the closest things since then. When the Downcounty Consortium came into fruition in 2003, Northwood was reopened, and now, three years later, the tradition has been restored. This past week, Blair's spring sports took on the Northwood Gladiators once again after a 20+ year hiatus, renewing a heated rivalry that shined in years past.
Volleyball's genius play downs Einstein

Friday the Thirteenth was anything but unlucky for Blair volleyball (4-1), as the coed Blazers soundly defeated the Einstein Titans in three games, 25-12, 25-10 and 25-19. After exceeding last year's win total two days before, Blair coed volleyball continued their sizzling play, picking up their third win in a row and improving their record to 4-1 despite missing four key players. Although Friday night's game saw unforced errors and some communication lapses by the home team, the addition of junior Julie Zhu, captain of the girls' volleyball team, sparked a fairly easy victory.

While the Blair boys' outdoor track team dusted Clarksburg by 22 points, the Lady Blazers' 69-68 victory over the Coyotes was a nail-biter. The two teams swapped the lead until the last event, the 4x400m relay.
Boys' volleyball bulldoze Gladiators in three sets

The boys' volleyball team cleared out its opponent in three straight sets for the first time against Northwood, a young team with less experience when compared to two-time champion Blair. The Gladiators' underdevelopment offered the Blair bench first touches of the game ball and Coach Sang Ahn new lineups to explore, especially the team will graduate six seniors. Yet despite the fresh hands and feet on the Blazer court, Blair optimistically defeated the Northwood team, 25-10, 25-20 and 25-17.

Blair's softball team started the game with intensity, immediately jumping to an 8-0 lead over the previously undefeated Wootton Patriots. Despite a lack of focus on defense and an inability to adjust to a new, much slower pitcher Blair was able to end the game with the mercy rule after six innings by being up by over 10 runs.

APR. 11, NELSON H. KOBREN MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM- Only four games into the volleyball season, the Blazers' coed volleyball team has already exceeded their win total from a year ago. On Wednesday night, Blair coed overcame a slow start to defeat the Northwood Gladiators in three games, 25-13, 25-11 and 25-13. This latest victory puts Blair's record at an impressive 3-1. Although the spring break rust showed in the game's early goings, the Blazers' superior serving and teamwork were more than enough to handle Northwood.

The 2007 season will not be an easy one for the Blair baseball team, as inexperience and injuries have already begun taking their toll on the program. Most of the team has limited varsity experience, and injuries have robbed them of some players who do. "There's not a lot of varsity success returning," said head coach John MacDonald.
