Richard Montgomery put up a good fight, with their pitcher being one of the toughest the Blazers have faced all season. But in the end Blair's defense helped them come out on top, beating Richard Montgomery 6-4 and securing the division title for the second year in a row.
In their fourth win in a row and fastest game of the season, the girls' varsity softball team (5-1) defeated the Damascus Hornet (0-1). The game got off to a slow start but with solid and focused offensive and defensive players, the Blazers managed to score 5 runs in the last inning, with the final score 10-0 Blair.
On May 15 of last year, Blair exited the playoffs with unfinished business after suffering a 7-4 defeat to the Clarksburg Coyotes. Yesterday afternoon was a different story, as Blair (11-0) pulled away early and defeated the Coyotes (5-2) by a score of 11-6.
The Blair softball team (12-1) shut out the Northwest Jaguars (7-5), scoring eight runs in the process as the Jaguars struggled to get on base. With senior co-captain and pitcher Samantha Schweickhardt dominating the mound, Blair clinched the win thanks to consistent hitting and clever base running. While the Jaguars slammed a couple impressive hits into the outfield, Blair's cohesive fielding and communication helped grab a fourth straight win of their near-perfect season.
Both teams entered the dugouts undefeated, but it was Blair that would emerge with a tarnished record, losing to Sherwood in a final score of 8-3.
