On Tuesday, Jan. 28, with more than half of Americans disapproving of his presidency, Barack Obama delivered his annual State of the Union address, promising more jobs, a better economy and less congressional gridlock.
On Thursday, the Maryland Senate Committee held a hearing for the proposal to raise the minimum wage in Maryland to $10 per hour by 2015. Currently, the minimum wage stands at $7.25 an hour and is in accordance with the federal minimum wage mandate.
The bill was introduced by Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), and it could potentially give over 30 million Americans a pay raise. Although at first glance, it appears that this bill would bolster America's middle class, the bill could certainly have some unintended effects.
