Lifting the veil on the rise of German Islamophobia

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for a ban on the full face veil in a speech at her party's conference. She said wearing the veil, called niqabs and burkas, was not appropriate in Germany. However, banning the veil does not encourage the cultural assimilation of migrant women.


Blazers place at Muslim Interscholastic Tournament

On July 8, seniors Mamata Abdou, Marwa Soliman and Azizah Abdul-Samad and freshman Hamza Choudhury placed in several events at the Muslim Interscholastic Tournament (MIST) Nationals in Toronto, Ontario. It was a three-day event, allowing time for cultural workshops as well as the actual competition and concluding award ceremony. This year, the national competition had over 750 competitors participating in various divisions including: arts, sports and literature analysis.
