Starting Monday November 14, students gathered in the media center after school for a week to talk and engage in meaningful dialogue about race. Students also utilized this time to organize and plan the next step following the walk out.
As Blair prepares for the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) tests, Blair teachers expressed frustration and anger at a test they view as overly difficult, time-onsuming and representative of educational policies that delegitimize public education.
Last month, Blair social studies teacher Kevin Shindel created the educational forum "Share Your Ground," a page that posts different discussion starters such as articles and questions five or six times a week.
Social studies teacher Kevin Shindel has started a TED-Education club at Blair that will meet every Thursday from 2:15-4 p.m. Club members will watch and discuss TED Talks and hopefully be inspired to create their own.
Philosophy is a new semester-long elective that has seen immediate popularity, with over 100 students enrolled in its first year.
