On a warm Tuesday evening in Glen Burnie, MD, the Blair softball team (19-3) fell to the Chesapeake Cougars (17-6) 5-2 in the Maryland 4A state semifinal.
The the Blair varsity softball team (15-1) profited from good hitting and wild pitching to defeat the Walter Johnson Wildcats (4-11). After Walter Johnson scored a run in the top of the first inning, Blair rebounded by scoring 10 in route to a score of 17-4.
On May 15 of last year, Blair exited the playoffs with unfinished business after suffering a 7-4 defeat to the Clarksburg Coyotes. Yesterday afternoon was a different story, as Blair (11-0) pulled away early and defeated the Coyotes (5-2) by a score of 11-6.
The Blair girls' varsity soccer team (6-6) triumphed over the Springbrook Blue Devils (0-10) in an 8-0 resounding win. The game ended 12 minutes early after a Springbrook player hit her head and had to be carried off in a stretcher.

Blair seniors Annie Pietanza and Briana Villa were presented House of Delegates awards on Tuesday, Aug. 27 for making the All-Gazette softball team in July.
The Blair softball team (12-1) shut out the Northwest Jaguars (7-5), scoring eight runs in the process as the Jaguars struggled to get on base. With senior co-captain and pitcher Samantha Schweickhardt dominating the mound, Blair clinched the win thanks to consistent hitting and clever base running. While the Jaguars slammed a couple impressive hits into the outfield, Blair's cohesive fielding and communication helped grab a fourth straight win of their near-perfect season.
