MCPS inspects safety in athletic teams following a rape incident at Damascus High School
The playoffs don't begin until next week for the Blair Blazers (8-2), but they still had to face an intimidating foe on Friday night: the Damascus Hornets (10-0). The Hornets had not lost a game since the 2014 3A state finals, and they kept that streak alive by edging the Blazers 35-27.
After setting records and winning the Maryland 3A state championship for the Damascus Swarmin' Hornets this past fall sports season, local running back Jake Funk is poised to make an impact at the college level. The former high schooler enrolled early for the spring semester at the University of Maryland, where he committed in October.
The Blazers (7-6) were optimistic coming into the game, but they lost to the Damascus Hornets (6-6) by a final score of 2-1. This was a frustrating loss for the team because it was the Blazers' fourth game this week and third loss.
