Seniors Eric Lu and Arnold Mong, juniors Jamie Vinson and Alex Miao and sophomore Elliot Kienzle won the US Department of Energy National Science Bowl on May 2 at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center. The last time Blair won the national competition was in 1999. The team reached the top five in 2004 and in 2011, when Blair placed fourth and second place, respectively.
Juniors Neal Sarkar and Jeffery Ge founded the yo-yo club, which is sponsored by Blair chemistry teacher Tran Pham and meets Thursdays after 9th period in the 320s hallway.
The Blair science team won the Maryland High School Science Bowl for the second year in a row last month. They will move on to represent Maryland at the 25th annual National Science Bowl held from April 30 to May 4 in Washington D.C.
Three Blair teams competed in the Maryland Regional Science Bowl on Jan. 19 at Montgomery College. Teams A and B placed second and third respectively, losing to a team from Rockville High School. The competition comprised 45 teams from 25 schools in the region. Rockville will advance to Nationals, beginning April 25 in Washington D.C.
