Although Montgomery County has an array of students from different backgrounds, the majority of the SMOB candidates all come from the same one. There needs to be more diversity among SMOB candidates to have different and more diverse issues raised and to better represent the county's array of different people.

On April 24, Montgomery County Public School students cast their votes for the 36th Student Member of the Board (SMOB), electing Justin Kim of Poolesville High School over Andrew Zhang of Richard Montgomery by a sizeable margin of 30.46 percentage points.

Blair sophomore Christina McCann is officially in the running to become the next Student Member of the Board (SMOB). As a nominee, McCann is the first Blair student to have filed for the position since 2007 when then-junior Will Bucher was placed on the ballot.
