Boys' basketball wins first round playoff game

The Montgomery Blair Blazers (13-9), the four seed in the playoffs, beat the five seed Bethesda Chevy-Chase Barons (10-14) by a score of 48-43 on Friday evening to advance to the regional quarterfinals against Richard Montgomery. The Blazers were able to remain calm under pressure and eke out a good win.


Blair varsity boys basketball wins against Clarksburg

Blair's varsity boys' basketball team won 56-50 against Clarksburg on Friday night. Sophomore forward Ethan Ellis scored 13 points and senior center Julius Cobb dunked twice and scored 21 points.


Blazers demolish Northwood

The Blair boys' basketball team (9-8) flexed its muscles against the Northwood Gladiators (2-17) on Tuesday. With a full-court, man-to-man defense throughout the game, the Blazers put pressure on Northwood from the beginning and took advantage of opportunities on offense. After gaining a lead in the first quarter, Blair pulled ahead significantly and never looked back.


Boys' basketball is taken down by Magruder

The Blair Blazers' boys' basketball team (7-8) threw different defensive looks at their opponents, but could not keep up with the Magruder Colonels' (11-6) accuracy from behind the three point arc. Even a big third quarter comeback that reeled the Colonels' lead to just three points could not keep the Blazers out of the loss column with a 64-55 loss.


Blair boys' basketball suffers tough 59-52 loss

The Blair Blazers (7-6) lost to the Paint Branch Panthers (10-5) by a score of 59-52 on Wednesday night. Paint Branch had built a comfortable lead by halftime, but the Blazers nearly battled back to tie it before Paint Branch secured the victory. Missed free throws and countless turnovers cost Blair a chance at an upset over a Panthers' team that took down the locally ranked Kennedy Cavaliers last week.


Blair boys' basketball team earns tight win against Sherwood

Neither team led by more than six points for the duration of the contest, and the game was tied at 46 with 30 seconds to play. However, the Blazers struck last on a tip-in by senior forward Julius Cobb with less than a second left on the clock to escape with a 48-46 win.


Blair boys basketball wins an overtime thriller

The Blair Blazers (4-3) beat the Springbrook Blue Devils (3-4) 54-48 on Friday night. The intense game was neck and neck the entire way, with both sides coming up clutch at the right moments. Blair was able to come out victorious thanks to sound defense and great free throw shooting.


Blair boys basketball loses defensive battle

The Blair Blazers (1-1) lost to the Richard Montgomery Rockets (3-0) 40-33 Monday. The low-scoring defensive battle remained close until midway through the third quarter, when the Rockets started to pull away thanks to solid free throw shooting and fast break points coming off of Blair turnovers.


Blair boys basketball advances in playoffs

The Blair Blazers (12-9) beat the Churchill Bulldogs (11-11) Friday by a score of 60-41. Blair struggled against Churchill the first time they played, winning by only four points, but in this matchup the Blazers' strong defensive play, comprehensive scouting report, and dominance in the low post bolstered them to a victory.


Blair falls on last second shot from Einstein

As time expired, the buzzer beating shot from the Einstein Titans guard banked off the backboard and sunk through the net. The Blair Blazers were handed their first loss of the young season, 51-49, in a game in which Blair was set back by missed open jumpers, layups and free throws. Despite controlling the ball and playing strong defense throughout the game, the Blazers lack of offense led to the loss on Tuesday night.
