This week marks the spring spirit week that will end with a pep rally on Friday, which is the first school-wide pep rally since the Fall 2003 Homecoming. Spirit week includes Backwards Day on Monday, Toga Day on Tuesday, Culture Day on Wednesday, Tropical Day on Thursday and Culture Day on Friday.
Blair's International Night and SGR Spectacular will be held tonight from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the SAC. It will be the first time International club and SGR have collaborated together to put the two shows into one night.

The Visual Arts Center (VAC) annual art show at Albert Einstein High School opened displaying the work of many Blazers. The show opened Wednesday continues today from 6 to 9 p.m.
Walter Johnson junior Ben Moskowitz has been elected as the Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) for the 2007-2008 school year, carrying 56.75 percent of the vote to edge out Blair junior Will Bucher.

Four days before the eighth anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting, a shooting at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University's Blacksburg campus yesterday left 33 dead, including the shooter who committed suicide. Cho Seung Hui was recently disclosed as the gunman in this incident, which is now considered the deadliest shooting in U.S. history.
In Early November, the Social Studies Department instituted after-school academic support in order to better prepare students for the Government HSA, which will take place on May 25, 2007. This effort, which is headed by NSL teacher Mark Grossman, will continue until the week of the assessment.

As a culmination of the National Week of Student Action on Darfur, students in the Washington, D.C. area rallied in front of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China on March 30 to seek China's help in protecting the civilians of Darfur, West Sudan. The rally took place from 3 to 5 p.m.

Students Oppose Smoking and Montgomery County Youth Advisory Committee are holding Chalk Out the Smoke, a smoke-free event, today from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville. For $3, or $2 with a canned food, and a Montgomery County public school ID, high school students can play pool, dance, listen to music provided by Hot 99.5 and enjoy a free buffet.
Senior Ross Williams, who lettered in both basketball and football this year, has qualified for the county All-Star Basketball team. Williams, who has been playing on Blair's varsity team since his sophomore year, led the team in scoring and to their first playoff win in ten years this season.
The Montgomery County Council met with area leaders in energy conservation and reform to discuss global warming this past Wednesday, March 14. Headed by Councilmember Roger Berliner, the council discussed current measures the county is taking to fight global warming and what its goals should be for the future.
Blair's After Prom Committee is holding a fundraiser with Jerry's Subs and Pizza in Four Corners tomorrow, March 20. Jerry's manager John Distler will donate 15 percent of the sales made between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. to help with After Prom funding.
Sixteen students participated in the 51st annual Montgomery County Science fair in Gaithersburg this weekend. Senior Victoria Yao, one of Blair's 12 Intel semifinalists, placed first in her category and was a runner-up for the fair's grand prize.
Six Montgomery County schools will begin field tests to pilot lessons that introduce the topic of sexual orientation into 8th and 10th grade health curriculums for the first time. If approved by the Maryland State Board of Education this summer, the lessons will be implemented countywide next fall.
Maryland School Superintendent Nancy S. Grasmick suggested a two year delay for the High School Assessment (HSA) requirements for Special Education students and English language learners at a Board of Education meeting March 1. She plans to formalize the delay in August after reviewing data from the next administration of the tests in May.
Blair will host its second annual Poetry Slam during Blair Fair on April 20 at 7 p.m. in the library. The English department will welcome back poet Carol Peck of the Maryland State Arts Council to conduct poetry workshops for students in the two weeks before competition.
