Following the varsity squads, Blair's four junior varsity spring sports teams also look forward to competitive, fun seasons. All four teams are relatively young, as the junior varsity lacrosse program is new to Blair, and both baseball and softball lost most returning players. But confidence from coaches and players promises several successful seasons.
PG SPORTSPLEX, March 15- Blair qualified three athletes to compete in three different events at the Nike Indoor National (NIN) Championship track meet on Saturday, March 15. NIN has hosted hundreds of athletes from across the country in the premier high school indoor track meet every year since 1999.
Crushing disappointment came as the final seconds of the 22nd annual Changuris Cup championship ran down on Feb. 14. After losing 1-0 for three championship games in a row, floor hockey team "A Tribe Called Best" stepped off the gym floor in frustration, with some members in tears.

He watched the boys' volleyball team on its recent path to glory from 2005 to 2006 and the excitement of the boys' basketball team's clincher this year on senior night. Through tragedy and triumph he has supported and uplifted our spirits, yet few acknowledge this hero. Looking across the gym, one's eyes are immediately drawn toward the iconic Superman Blazer, blasting from the far wall, a reminder of the real superhero of Blair sports who is commemorated with the words "In memorial of Nelson H. Kobren."
With the game deadlocked at 41-41 and one minute remaining, Blair's boys' basketball team (7-15) scored the final four points to clinch the upset against the divisional champion Wootton Patriots on Tuesday night, 45-41. Behind their roaring fans, the Blazers extended their improbable run to four wins in a row, with the next contest on Thursday versus second seed Magruder (16-6) in the regional semifinals.
The girls' varsity basketball team (5-18) fell to the Walter Johnson Wildcats (7-16) in the first round of the regional playoffs. The Blazers fought hard on defense and executed well on offense, but the Wildcats picked it up in the second half, going on to win by a score of 62-44.
The boys' varsity basketball team overcame the Blake Bengals in the first round of the regional playoffs on Saturday afternoon, winning 56-52 in an overtime thriller. The Blazers, now 6-17 on the season but riding a three-game winning streak, will travel to Wootton on Tuesday for the second round of the playoffs.
Feb. 27, 2007 was a momentous day at Magruder High School. The night before, the vaunted Colonels boys' basketball team had advanced to the third round of the regional playoffs with an impressive victory over the Montgomery Blair Blazers in front of their raucous home crowd. But then-Magruder English teacher Mark DeStefano was not in a celebratory mood. DeStefano, coach of the Blair boys' varsity basketball team, had been on the receiving end of the 58-31 trouncing.
The boys' varsity basketball team finished off the regular season in a dominating fashion Tuesday night, defeating the Wheaton Knights 58-35. The win came just a day after a convincing 15-point victory at Gaithersburg on Monday. By posting their first back-to-back victories since beginning the season 2-0, the team ended the regular season at 5-17, and will host the Blake Bengals on Saturday for the first round of playoffs.

A member of Blair's varsity cheerleading team since she was 6, eight-year-old Taylor Forbes comes to the squad with an 18-year-old's attitude, bringing dedication, energy and poise that make her a fun and involved member of the team.
NELSON H. KOBREN GYMNASIUM, FEB. 21 – The girls' varsity basketball team fell to the Gaithersburg Trojans in a one-sided 30-60 rout in their final game of the season.
The Blair varsity boys' basketball team sulked off the court Tuesday night after falling to the Walter Johnson Wildcats by a familiarly close score, 54-48. A reflection of Blair's disappointing down-to-the-buzzer season, the game dropped the team's season record to a dismal 3-15.
On a successful night for the Blair indoor track team, the boys' 4x200-meter relay team placed first at the 4A Maryland State Championship, and the 4x400m relay took home the silver medal with second place in a loss by .28 seconds. With athletes entered in only five events, the boys' squad racked up 30 points by placing in each event for a fourth place finish out of 23 teams.
Blair varsity boys' basketball (3-16) suffered yet another painfully close loss on Friday night, falling to the Quince Orchard Cougars (12-7) by a score of 45-39. The teams were evenly matched for three-and-a-half quarters before the Cougars finally pulled away and held on with superior foul shooting.

GERMANTOWN INDOOR SWIM CENTER, Feb. 9 – Blair's swim and dive team placed a combined second out of six teams in the Division II championship meet last Saturday, losing first place to the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Barons. The boys' team, which finished its season undefeated, captured first place with a final score of 500 points, while the girls tied Magruder for fifth with 274 points.
Despite a spirited effort, the Blair community ice hockey team lost to Walt Whitman Friday evening at Wheaton Outdoor Ice Rink by a score of 10-3. The game was the Blazers' last regular season game, though two exhibition games are currently being set up, according to head coach Kevin McCabe.
The Blair poms squad earned fifth place in the Montgomery County Division II Pompon Championship held at Blair on Saturday. First place went to Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and second and third places went to Gaithersburg and Clarksburg, respectively.
Athletes from the indoor track team will advance to the 4A Maryland State meet in six events after finishing in the top four or meeting qualifying times at the 4A West Regional meet, held yesterday at the Baltimore Armory. The Blair boys also racked up enough points to finish fourth overall.
The Blair wrestling team ended its home season with a resounding victory on Tuesday night, decisively defeating the Richard Montgomery Rockets 54-24 on senior night. The blowout resulted from solid pinning from the Blazers as well as five forfeits by the Rockets.
The Blazers (4-10) defeated the Sherwood Warriors 50-45 with crowd-pleasing plays in the last minute to end the 45-45 stalemate.
In an all too familiar fashion, the boys' varsity basketball team lost once again Monday night, this time to defending state champions Sherwood. The Blazers (2-12) took an eight point lead into the third quarter, but were undone when the visiting Warriors hit the winning jumper as time expired for a final score of 49-47.
In their twelfth straight loss of the season, the varsity boy's basketball team brought their spiraling record to an embarrassing 2-12, falling to the Blake Bengals in yet another heartbreakingly-close match, 50-48.
