For the 2017-2018 school year, Montgomery County Public School's (MCPS) Department of Facilities Management added four new portables and changed two computer labs into classrooms. The expansion occurred after school administration ran a simulation that revealed Blair had more students than space. Construction of the portables began in June 2017 and ended in July, several weeks ahead of schedule.
Homecoming week is very important around Blair. The majority of the student body takes part in the week's festivities, but the work starts months earlier for the people who put it all together. Making sure that the football game, spirit week, pep rally and dance run smoothly is a joint effort by the Student Government Association (SGA) and by a select group of dedicated students and staff.

Pep rallies, the blood drive, fundraisers and dances don't run themselves. Officers in the student government association (SGA) strive to ensure that students have the best possible high school experience possible. But who are the new faces behind the SGA?
From Dec. 11 to 19, Blair's Student Government Association (SGA) ran a Holiday Hope Week in which they sold candy with all proceeds being donated to the National Children's Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
This year, instead of being hosted in the student activities center (SAC), Blair's homecoming will be held in the gym. The Student Government association (SGA) made this change because of safety reasons and an increase in space and possibilities offered by the new venue.
Blair administration called for all clubs to renew their charters before the activity fair on October 24 in order to remain active because of liability concerns.
The Student Government Association (SGA) will hold their annual blood drive on Thursday, Nov. 15, with Inova Blood Donor Services. Unlike last year, every student who wants to donate blood must have the parent consent sheet signed in order to be a donor.
The second senior class trip will take place at Kings Dominion on June 5. The trip will occur after seniors complete their exams and will provide students with an alternative to beach week. According to senior class advisor Claudette Smith, a minimum of 100 students must attend or the trip will be canceled.
On April 13 the Student Government Association (SGA) will begin hosting "Fun Fridays" to bring students together in a relaxed and safe environment.
The Student Government Association (SGA) is holding several annual events this fall. The Inova Blood Drive is the first event of the year, followed by the annual Activity Fair and freshman class elections. Homecoming events begin the week of Oct. 10, a week earlier than last year and will be the main focus of this year's fall events. The SGA also plans to sponsor a homeless walk and blood drive in late fall, but those events are currently in the early planning stages, according to junior SGA representative Kathlyn Skolnik. Despite the absence of new fall activities, the SGA is looking to revitalize and get more students involved in their events, according to sophomore representative Amalia Perez.
